What is Boston University Merit Scholarships?
Merit Scholarships for First-Year Students 2024 is sponsored by Boston University. BU offers a wide variety of merit scholarships, some even covering full tuition, to recognize high achieving students who go above and beyond. Most awards are for academic achievement, while others go to talented athletes, performers, and artists. Plus, merit-based awards don’t require you to submit a financial aid application and do not have to be repaid.

Who is Eligible to Apply for Merit Scholarships?
** U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and eligible non-citizens are considered for all merit awards and other scholarships.
** International students are considered for the Trustee and Presidential Scholarships only.
While criteria varies for each scholarship, recipients typically:
** Rank in the top 5% of their high school class.
** Have shown incredible extracurricular achievements in their schools and communities.
** Though test scores are not required, students who submit scores typically- Have SAT scores above 1500 and ACT scores above 33.
What is Boston University College of Engineering FIRST Scholarship?
** This four-year, $25,000 tuition scholarship is awarded to students who have participated in the FIRST Robotics program for at least one full season in high school and who have applied and been admitted to the College of Engineering.
** FIRST Scholars also receive funding to participate in a research program with a College of Engineering faculty member for up to 10 hours per week for one semester in the first two years of study.
** Those who maintain an overall grade point average of 3.40 are guaranteed admission to a BU College of Engineering master of science program.
To be eligible:
** Submit your application for admission to the College of Engineering and all supporting credentials by January 4.
** Have a FIRST team advisor submit this required recommendation form and letter of recommendation no later than February 1. For more information, please contact 617-353-2300.

What is Boston University Trustee Scholarship?
** Every year, BU welcomes approximately 20 outstanding students to the Trustee Scholars Program. Many of our current Scholars had perfect 4.0 grade point averages in high school and ranked in the top of their class.
** In addition to exceptional academic credentials, Trustee Scholars are intellectually and creatively adventurous and demonstrate viewpoints, experiences, or achievements beyond the usual.
** They are, in other words, not just top students, but extraordinarily well-rounded individuals. At BU, Trustee Scholars become part of a unique campus community that offers many intellectual, cultural, and social opportunities.
** A Trustee Scholarship covers full undergraduate tuition plus mandatory undergraduate student fees, and is renewable for four years if certain criteria are met.
How To Apply for Trustee Scholarship?
To be considered for a Trustee Scholarship:
** Submit the Common Application and all required materials for admission to one of the undergraduate degree programs at BU by December 1.
** Complete the Trustee Scholarship essay on the Common Application as part of your application to BU.
The Trustee Scholarship Essay:
** Please choose from one of the two prompts below and submit one essay, in 600 words or less, as part of your application through the Common Application.
** Nobel laureate and BU professor Elie Wiesel once said: “There is divine beauty in learning… To learn means to accept the postulate that life did not begin at my birth. Others have been here before me, and I walk in their footsteps.
** The books I have read were composed by generations of fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, teachers and disciples. I am the sum total of their experiences, their quests.”
** Is there a book, film, podcast or life- experience that has made you feel more connected to your personal history/identity, and what is the most important thing you learned from it?
** Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “Do not follow where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” Describe a time in your life when you stepped out of your comfort zone and forged your own path.
** What motivated you to take that action, and how did it change your perspective? Share the lessons you learned from that experience, and how it might shape your views as a Trustee Scholar.
What is Boston University Presidential Scholarship?
Each year, the Board of Admissions awards the Presidential Scholarship to our incoming first-year students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. In addition to being among our most academically talented students, Presidential Scholars demonstrate excellence beyond the classroom and are leaders in their schools and communities. This half-tuition scholarship* is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study at BU.
How to Apply for Presidential Scholarship?
No additional essays or application forms are required. Students who wish to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship should submit their application and supporting credentials by December 1.
