What is McCall MacBain Scholarship?

McCall MacBain Scholarship 2024 is sponsored by McGill University. The McCall MacBain Scholarship covers tuition and fees for an eligible master’s program or a second-entry professional undergraduate program at McGill, a living stipend of $2,000 CAD per month during academic terms, a one-time relocation grant, and options for summer funding. Scholars also participate in a leadership development program, connect with mentors and advisors, and attend a breadth of workshops and talks. Eligibility Criteria of McCall MacBain Scholarship

To be eligible to apply for our 2025 cohort, you will need to meet ONE of the following criteria:
** You are a current student on track to earn your first bachelor’s degree by August 2025
** You earned your first bachelor’s degree in the last five years (January 2019 or later)
** You earned your first bachelor’s degree more than five years ago, and are 30 years or younger in 2024
You will also need to meet the minimum degree and language requirements for McGill master’s program admission.

Canada and United States :
Students and graduates of universities in Canada and the United States, as well as Canadians abroad, should apply by: September 25, 2024
International :
Students and graduates of universities located in other countries should apply by: August 21, 2024

How to Apply for McCall MacBain Scholarship

pply for McCall MacBain Scholars :
Make sure to apply early! The McCall MacBain Scholarship application is available online from June to August / September 2024 for Summer / Fall 2025 admission. It is separate from McGill admissions, and two reference forms are required. Find out more about the application.

Apply for McGill Programs :
You’ll need to apply separately to eligible programs at McGill University. McGill admissions generally open in September for the following Fall semester. Apply by the program deadline, or in December at the latest, if selected as a scholarship finalist.

Attend Regional Interviews (invitation only) :
After an assessment of the written application, more than 250 Canadian and international semi-finalists will be invited to regional interviews. Your interviewers will be leaders who reflect varied disciplines and life experiences.

FAQ on McCall MacBain Scholarship

When should I apply for the McCall MacBain Scholarship?
The McCall MacBain Scholarship deadline is 12-15 months before the start of your program at McGill. Most people will therefore apply for the scholarship before they apply to a graduate program at McGill.

After you apply for the McCall MacBain Scholarship, you will need to apply to your intended McGill programs. You will need to apply to McGill by the program’s deadline, or by December at the latest if you are selected for McCall MacBain Scholarship final interviews.

How can I apply for the McCall MacBain Scholarship?

Please attend an information session. The application for our 2025 cohort will be available as of June 1, 2024.

What is the endorsement or nomination process?

** Current students and recent graduates (those who graduated in 2021, 2022, or 2023) must be endorsed by their university.
** Canadian universities, American universities, and the participating universities abroad are invited to endorse multiple candidates for this scholarship. Otherwise, you may be required to seek an endorsement from a fellowship advisor or a senior member of the university administration (president, vice-chancellor, rector, provost). ** For more details, please attend an information session.
** Alumni who graduated in 2020 or earlier do not require a university endorsement.

Who is my university representative?

The university representative is typically a senior member of the administration (President, Provost, Vice-Provost). At American universities, a fellowship advisor may submit the endorsement.

Can I choose to be endorsed or apply directly?

No. All current students and recent graduates (those who graduated in 2022, 2023, or 2024) must be endorsed by their university.

Alumni who graduated in 2021 or earlier do not require a university endorsement.

Is there a fee to apply for this scholarship?
No, but you will need to apply separately to at least one eligible program at McGill University. Visit the McGill Graduate Applicants website or the relevant professional program website (BCL/JD, DMD, MDCM) to learn how to apply. The McGill program application fee is not covered by this scholarship.

What are the reference form requirements?

As part of your scholarship application, you will need to ask two people to submit reference forms. These reference forms must be completed by your reference writers before the application deadline
** One academic* reference from someone who knows your academic work well
** One community reference from someone who knows your community involvement well
